Run it Back… Another Two-hitter, Another Blue Devils Win

The Columbus High Blue Devils Baseball club traveled to Newnan to face off against the Northgate Vikings for game two of the season. Senior starter Jack Brown (RHP 6’5″, 215 lb.) took the mound for the Blue Devils and was impressive. JB allowed 1 run on 2 hits over 4 innings. The only damage coming on a fielder’s choice in the third.

The Blue Devils struck right back in the top of the 4th, putting up a crooked number. Will Taylor led the inning with a walk. Saxon Anderson singled on a ground ball to short, Deuce Malone was Hit by a Pitch, and JB helped himself out with a walk to drive in a run. Junior David Scott Livingston then singled to short, driving in another run. Catcher Wilson Holland had a really nice sacrifice fly, driving in Deuce for the third run of the inning. And finally red-hot Collin Cates singled another run in before the final out of the inning.

JB finished his night with a goose egg in the fourth, before Junior left-hander Jonathan Miller, whose had a really nice spring showing in practice, took over in the 5th inning with a really nice two inning hold. Miller had a clean 5th, and only a hit-by-pitch in the 6th. Junior RJ Griffin came in to close the game out in the 7th. After battling back into the count to the leadoff, RJ gave up walk. Northgate laid down a really nice sacrifice bunt after that, which Griffin fielded and rifled to first where senior Jack Peak dug it out on a close play. That was followed by the co-defensive play of the game on a sharp liner to second, where Collin Cates made a beautiful diving catch for the second out. The other defensive play of the game came in the 6th, when Northgate’s D Manley drove a ball to deep center where Junior Caden Bryans made an incredible running catch close to the wall. RJ finished out the save with a strikeout looking to end the game.
