Columbus Drops Their First in Pitchers Duel with Colquitt County

The Blue Devils faced off against 7A school Colquitt County Packers on Friday, the 16th in a well-pitched ballgame, with Columbus eventually being shut-out 3-0 for their first loss of the season.

Small ball ruled the day for the Packers scoring all three runs by way of manufacturing them. A Fielders choice, a sacrifice fly, and single after a stolen base completed the tallies in each of the 2nd, 4th and 7th innings.

Sophomore Michael Nottleman started for the Blue Devils went five innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and one walk, with 5 strikeouts. Senior Jack Peak finished out the game going 2 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 4 K’s.

Will Taylor and Wilson Holland were the only Blue Devils with base hits, while Jack Peak and Saxon Anderson reach via walks.

Colquitt County went on to beat Harris County 16-1 and 5-4 on Saturday, showing just how much depth a 7A school can bring to the table.

Columbus will look to rebound Tuesday traveling to Auburn on 280 night. Auburn and Columbus’ JV teams will play at Columbus, while the Varsity Teams will face off in Auburn.
